Among the Filipinas’ anticipated recruits last year, Maz Pacheco continues her career at the Women’s Super League with Everton.
Maz Pacheco is returning to her roots in Liverpool as she was announced to have signed with England’s top flight women’s football competition Women’s Super League’s Everton after her contract expired with Aston Villa.
Pacheco, 26, spent four years with Aston Villa and made 73 appearances for the club — scoring two goals in that period.
Everton brings Pacheco back to Goodison Park, the first stadium that she visited as a child. Everton is based in Liverpool which is just a few miles from Pacheco’s birthplace of Ormskirk in England, where she was born to a Filipino mother.
During her youth career, Pacheco played for Liverpool before also playing for the senior team from 2015 to 2017.
She was also playing for England’s youth teams internationally before ultimately switching to represent the Filipinas when she was first called up for the team in 2024. Though not having seen action in an official match just yet, Pacheco is one of the more anticipated players for the Philippines.
Speaking to EvertonTV, Pacheco waxed nostalgic about her signing with the club.
“It is amazing to join Everton. To be at such a historic club is an unbelievable feeling. I wanted to stay in the WSL and give it my all,” said Pacheco.
“I have matured as a player and for Everton to be the club to bring me back home is fantastic. To be close to family, to have friends already in the squad, and to be able to come to play at Goodison Park is amazing. It was my grassroots club that brought me to Goodison Park… Returning to Goodison now, it is surreal how we have gone full circle and, 10 years later, it will be the Club that I play for,” she added.
Manager Brian Sorensen spoke highly about the club’s eighth signing of the summer.
“Maz is a top-quality player who will bring so much to the Club on and off the pitch. She has a lot of experience in this league and has good relationships with several members of our squad already,” he said.
“Maz has shown her talent throughout her time in the WSL, and I am delighted to have her with us at Everton,” he added.
