The DLSU Green Archers remain perfect in the Playtime Cares 18th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup after hounding the UST Growling Tigers.
In a battle of the top two teams in the UAAP group, the DLSU Green Archers emerged victorious after taming the UST Growling Tigers, 94-86, in the final group stage game of the Playtime Cares Filoil EcoOil 18th Preseason Cup at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Wednesday, July 9.
The Green Archers will finish top of the UAAP group with a perfect 6-0 record, while the Growling Tigers were handed their second loss in the preseason tilt at 4-2.
Things got heated between both squads late in the third quarter after Jacob Cortez was fouled hard by Gelo Crisostomo. Technical fouls were handed to Mike Phillips and Peter Osang, both for second motion.
This greatly fanned the flames for the Green Archers as they turned a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter into a double-digit lead at 85-73.
UST’s Leland Estacio and Mur Alao tried to keep their squad afloat with back-to-back triples to cut the deficit at 86-90. However, La Salle kept themselves composed as Mason Amos delivered the dagger to seal the win.
Amos and Kean Baclaan spearheaded the charge for La Salle with 18 points apiece, while Phillips and Cortez added 14 and 11 markers, respectively.
Ice Danting paced UST with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Nic Cabanero added 18 in the loss.
DLSU will face the Arellano Chiefs in the crossover quarterfinals, while UST will go up against the EAC Generals.
