The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) on Tuesday, June 17, announced the departure of Freddy Gonzalez from his roles as senior national teams director and men’s national team manager.

Gonzalez, who played a key role in steering the country’s national football program into a new era, described his decision as a difficult but necessary step in his personal and professional journey.

“It has been one of the biggest honors of my life to be a part of this team and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity,” said Gonzalez in a statement. “Now is the time for me to focus on other pursuits and opportunities, both personal and professional.”

In his message, Gonzalez also thanked the players and staff, citing their commitment and impact on the development of Philippine football.

“I want to thank all of the players for their sacrifices and commitment to the team. They all have changed the culture of the National Team. In such a short time, they have made a difference in Philippine football, for the better,” he shared. “It was an absolute privilege!”

Under Gonzalez’s leadership, the PFF ushered in a new wave of young talent and introduced a more professional structure within the national teams setup.

His tenure saw a strong campaign in the ASEAN Championship and a solid start in the Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

PFF President John Gutierrez expressed his gratitude for Gonzalez’s contributions:

“We are grateful for Freddy’s dedication and contributions during his tenure with the PFF, most especially his efforts to advance our national team programs. We truly thank him for his service.”

Gutierrez added that the federation remains committed to sustaining the momentum Gonzalez helped build.

“We assure the players that we will continue Fred’s framework for the national team, diligently ensuring our programs are well-supported and thriving,” he said.

Also stepping down is assistant team manager Mikkel Paris. The PFF noted that a new announcement regarding the future leadership of the national teams will be made soon.
