The 2025 Palarong Pambansa is officially underway—and it didn’t take long for history to be made.
Chrisia Mae Tajarros of Region 8 – Eastern Visayas delivered the first gold medal of this year’s Palarong Pambansa after a dominant performance in the secondary girls’ 3000-meter run on Monday at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium.
The incoming Grade 9 student from Tanauan National High School in Leyte clocked in at 10 minutes and 18.6 seconds, running an emphatic statement race that marked a golden improvement from her silver medal finish in 2024.
Tajarros led from start to finish, showcasing her dominance and determination from last year’s silver-medal performance in Cebu.
Finishing behind her was Mary Mae Magbanua of Region 13 (CARAGA), who took silver with a time of 10:48.4. Region 1’s Nathalie Faye Miguel settled for bronze at 10:50.4.
With Tajarros’ victory, Eastern Visayas now takes the early lead in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa medal tally.
The National Capital Region will aim to maintain its dominance as it seeks an 18th consecutive overall championship. In Cebu City last year, NCR amassed 98 gold medals, along with 66 silver medals and 74 bronze medals.
Calabarzon and Western Visayas, last year’s second and third placers, are likewise anticipated to remain strong contenders in this year’s edition.
