Alex Eala’s comeback bid against Colombian Emiliana Arango will have to wait as weather delays her first-ever match at the French Open.
Alex Eala’s momentum was halted on Sunday (PH time) as rain suspended play at Roland Garros. At the time of the stoppage, Eala was leading Colombian Emiliana Arango in the middle of the second set, but was trailing the match overall.
After a surprising 0-6 loss in set 1, Eala was in the midst of rebounding in set 2, taking a 3-2 advantage when rain poured at the clay courts in Paris.
The 20-year-old had just lost her serve as Arango got within one game, 2-3.
In pursuit of her first-ever win in a Grand Slam main draw, the WTA world no. 69 mustered up momentum as she finally got on the board in game 1 of set 2, holding her serve.
She then seized a 3-1 lead after breaking Arango’s serve.
However, the continuation of their match will have to wait as they are now at the mercy of Paris’ weather.
The last time Eala’s match was delayed was back in her opening match at the Oeiras Ladies Open against Anouk Koevermans.
The delay lasted 24 hours before action resumed and Eala went on to win, 6-3, 6-4.
