And still.

Pedro Taduran retained his IBF minimumweight world title with a hard-fought, split decision win over Japan’s Ginjiro Shigeoka in their rematch at the Intex Osaka on Saturday, May 24.

Taduran couldn’t replicate his TKO win over Shigeoka in their first match last July 2024, but did enough to earn the nod on two of the three scorecards — 118-110 and 115-113 — while the third judge scored it 115-113 in favor of his Japanese counterpart.

The win marked the Filipino pugilist's fourth straight win to improve his record to 18-4-1 with 13 knockouts, while Shigeoka (11-2, 9 KOs) absorbed his second consecutive loss following an 11-0 start to his career.

Taduran leaned on his size and relentless pressure to wear down Shigeoka, who collapsed from exhaustion after the 12-round slugfest. The 25-year-old Japanese pugilist had to be stretchered off the ring shortly after the match.

A potential unification bout against Puerto Rico’s Oscar Collazo, the reigning WBA and WBO champion, could be on the horizon for Taduran.
