Eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao appears among the WBC rankings for welterweight ahead of a rumored return to the sport.
Manny Pacquiao may not be included in the Magic 12 for the 2025 senatorial elections based on the partial and unofficial tally, but he’s made it to the Top 5 in rankings among welterweight contenders by the World Boxing Council (WBC) released on Monday.
On the heels of conversations about a potential return to the ring for the 46-year-old, Pacquiao emerged as the fifth-ranked contender for the belt currently held by American Mario Barrios.
Barrios has been the title holder since September 2023, and reports have pointed Pacquiao as his next opponent for the belt.
The 29-year-old currently touts a 29-2 record with 18 KOs to his name.
Barrios had retained his title with a draw against Abel Ramos in November of last year. Prior to that, he was a on a 3-bout win streak.
Pacquiao (68-8-2), meanwhile, last fought professionally against Yordenis Ugas back in August 2021 where he lost via unanimous decision for the WBA welterweight championship.
Since then, the 46-year-old has dabbled in exhibition matches here and there — most recently drawing against Rukiya Anpo in a custom rules match in July 2024.
Of note, the WBC has written rules that state a former champion is allowed to request a title fight after coming out of retirement.
Pacquiao is slated to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame next month.
The rumored bout between the Filipino boxer and Barrios is expected to take place in July.
