Neil Etheridge reiterates that he hasn’t retired from international football and remains open to returning to the Philippine men's national football team.
Veteran goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has reiterated his commitment to the Philippine men’s national football team, saying he has not retired and remains ready to don the national team jersey—should he be called up again.
Now 35 and thriving with Thai League powerhouse Buriram United, Etheridge clarified that his recent absence from national team duty was not by choice but simply due to not being selected.
"Look, it's not my decision if I get called up or not,” Etheridge said in an interview on One News’ Play by Play. "I've made it very clear—I've spoken to people above the coach. I haven't spoken to the coach directly, but I’ve not retired. I still believe I have something to offer, both on and off the field."
Etheridge last suited up for the Philippines during the November 2023 window of the joint FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

The former Premier League keeper remains proud of his international contributions and continues to monitor the team’s progress.
Under Spanish coach Albert Capellas, the national team has impressed many with their performances, most notably during the 2024 ASEAN Championship, when the Philippines nearly reached the Finals.
"I'm very happy for the national team. I think they’re progressing well and all credit to them,” said Etheridge. "I still believe I have something to offer to that team."
"I've said I've not retired and Buriram have given me a platform within Southeast Asia to show everyone once again that arguably why I'm the best keeper in Southeast Asia."

The Filipino-British netminder played a key role in Buriram United’s recent successful 2024-25 campaign, helping the club secure its 10th Thai League 1 title and advance to the AFC Champions League Elite quarterfinals.
"To win anything in your career is an amazing achievement,” Etheridge said. "The Thai League is the strongest competition in Southeast Asia, and I’m proud to be part of a team that has proven itself on the continental stage."
While Etheridge has no plans to retire anytime soon, he remains focused on continuing his club duties—and staying ready for any opportunity to return to the national team.
