Joshua Garcia is dipping his toes into running.

The actor was in the spotlight during the second leg of the Metro Manila 10-Miler Series last Sunday, May 4, in the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay.

He finished the 10K race with an official time of 1:02:00, or a pace of 6:12 per kilometer. Not bad for someone's first foray into fun runs.

He did share some lessons he learned in that first sprint.

"Isa lang masasabi ko, mali na magpabilis sa umpisa," Garcia told One Sports after the race. "Kasi ang hirap habulin pero nagkaroon ako ng fastest 1K dahil dun."

"And it's my first 10K, malaking achievement 'yun sa 'kin and hopefully mag-half marathon naman."

The actor didn't go headfirst into the run without some practice though. He took ten days to train with Philippine team coach Ani de Leon-Brown, as well as other coaches Raf Sawali and Aidan Mercado.

"Para 'di mabigla katawan ko... Siyempre gwapo pa rin! 'De, loko lang!" Garcia joked.

As a first-time runner, the actor shared the most important tips he learned from training and from finishing a race.

"Pace mo lang sarili mo. Hindi mo kailangang biglain katawan mo," Garcia noted. "And kahit pagod ka na, kailangan mag-training pa rin."

"Saka always smile! Tip ni coach Raf 'yan."

The actor said he wanted to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

"Maiba naman kasi parang I'm used to parties, ganun naman palagi. Maiba naman healthy healthy na muna ako ngayon," he said. "Tignan natin kung hanggang san tayo dalhin. Sabi ko, magtraining lang ako for this one and then see kung ano mangyayari."
