Jackie Buntan will duel Anissa Meksen for the right to be the first women's Strawweight Kickboxing world champion in ONE Championship.
Another Filipina will look to claim a world title this year – this time under kickboxing rules.
Filipina-American striking sensation
Jackie Buntan takes on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world today in
Anissa Meksen, as they fight for the inaugural ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE Fight Night 23 on July 6 inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Fresh off a three-round war against Martine Michiletto, Buntan gets her second shot at 26 pounds of ONE gold against the French-Algerian striking machine.
Jackie fought for the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title in 2022 after winning three straight bouts in ONE Championship. Unfortunately, she lost to the prodigious teenager in
Smilla Sundell.
The 26-year-old striker didn’t let the defeat pull her down though.
Buntan bounced back with a dominant win over Amber Kitchen, before knocking out Diandra Martin in ONE’s U.S. debut last year.
Her performance against the aforementioned Michiletto – a fight where she showed great grit – ultimately sealed the deal and got her back into contention, this time against Meksen, who’s also looking to bounce back.
Meksen came in as the undisputed pound-for-pound best women’s kickboxer on the planet, and she certainly lived up to the hype with three convincing wins.
But she failed to claim gold in the promotion after losing a decision to
Phetjeeja when they fought for the ONE Interim Atomweight Kickboxing World Title.
This time, Meksen hopes to finally bring home a ONE World Title – the only trophy missing from her cabinet since snagging ISKA, WBC, Glory, and WAKO Championships.
