Carl Tamayo will not be playing in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

Tamayo’s agency Virtual Playground made the clarification Tuesday, amid reports that the former UP star was set to join the Manila Stars in the MPBL.

Virtual Playground added that they are seeking legal assistance and warned about spreading misinformation and flat out fake news.

Since securing his release from defending B.League champion Ryukyu Golden Kings, Tamayo hasn’t announced where he’s headed next to continue his professional basketball career.

VP said Tamayo is currently committed to Gilas Pilipinas, who recently swept the opening window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Tamayo played both games, scoring two points against Hong Kong on the road before bouncing back with a solid 11-point, 6-rebound effort in the home win against Chinese Taipei.
