The Philippines is a tropical country, but three Filipinos showed the cold doesn't bother them anyway as they compete in the 2024 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea.

Here's five reasons to get excited for them.

It's only the Philippines' third time in the Youth Winter Games

The Philippines' three-athlete contingent is actually the most number of competitors the country has sent in the Youth Winter Olympics.

In the 2012 Innsbruck Games in Austria, Abel Tesfamariam competed in slalom and giant slalom, where he finished 37th.

Meanwhile, figure skater Michael Christian Martinez impressed in his short program, rising to third place. After the free skate, he ended up seventh in the rankings.

The Philippines tried again in the 2020 Lausanne Games in Switzerland. Ana Wahleithner also competed in giant slalo and slalom, but fell to 36th and 33rd place. Speed skater

Julian Macaraeg also qualified and went as far as the quarterfinals of the 500m short track event.

Avery Uriel Balbanida is a teen man of culture.

In between video games and playing his favorite Michael Buble Christmas album, 16-year-old Avery Uriel Balbanida has found time in Alberta, Canada to train for cross-country skiing.

Have we mentioned that apparently, Avery also dreams of becoming a prosecution lawyer? At least, according to the Olympics website.

Laetaz Amihan Rabe is really cool

With a name like Amihan, it seems like freeski slopestyle and big air was destined for the 14-year-old Rabe.

How many girls can say they've held the national flag in an event such as the Youth Winter Olympics?

The Philippine kit is fly

The kit for the Philippine athletes for the Youth Winter Olympics seems to be pretty sleek.

There's a tan puffer jacket and an all-black uniform to boot. Aside of course from the stunning blue uniform during the race.

Check out the whole unboxing with speed skater Peter Groseclose.

This Team Groseclose moment is adorable

Sixteen-year-old Filipino-American speed skater Peter Groseclose bears a lot of the Philippines' winter dreams on his young shoulders, after finishing fourth in the ISU Junior World Cup. He also has an Olympic silver-winning coach in John Henry Kreuger

But at least for a night, he was the one being lifted up to see the festivities during the opening ceremonies of the Youth Winter Olympics.

Can we hear an awwwww?

Groseclose fell oh so close and missed the cut for the semifinals of the 1,500m short track speed skating event on Saturday.

He will have two more chances with the 1,000m event on Sunday and the 500m race on Monday.
