The split was confirmed by the now-ex lovers.
The world, including the sports’, is grieving on Thursday.
And no, it’s not because some legendary sports icon died. It came on the heels of the news of Kathniel’s breakup.
For weeks, rumors about the split swirled on social media. But it was only confirmed on Thursday when actress Kathryn Bernardo herself shared a lengthy post on Instagram.
“Deej, you gave me 11 beautiful years and the kind of love that I will forever cherish. I will always be grateful for you,” she said of on-screen partner and now-ex-boyfriend Daniel Padilla.
Padilla, who was linked to Ricci Rivero's ex-girlfriend, Andrea Brillantes, also posted a bittersweet message on his Instagram account.
“Bal, ang pagmamahal ko sa’yo ay walang hanggan at walang katapusan,” he said.
Among the sports personalities who reacted to this split was Cignal HD Spikers’ Jovelyn Gonzaga. Bionic as she may be, this was one thing that hurt to the bones.
“Sakit na masyado. Sakit mo 2023!” she said in an Instagram story.
Other PVL players like F2 Logistics Cargo Movers’ Jolina dela Cruz, Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ Des Cheng, and Petro Gazz Angels' Grethcel Soltones chimed in.
Philippine sporting gem Hidilyn Diaz and Gilas Pilipinas Women’s Trina Guytingco also sent their love to Bernardo.
Although he’s living miles away from the Philippines, Ryukyu Golden Kings reinforcement Carl Tamayo felt the shock and appeared to liken the breakup to that of PBA legend James Yap and actress Kris Aquino.
"Pain," he wrote in the caption.
Safe to say, this breakup could be just as stinging as losing a championship.
