Chemistry is so integral in sports that one almost always hears athletes discuss it.

That couldn’t be more true for Kheith Rhynne Cruz, who continues to make a name for herself in table tennis with the help of a person she's very familiar with.

The Filipina ace lorded over the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Contender in Puerto Princesa, Palawan after disposing of top seed Sally Moyland of the United States, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, last Saturday to top the U19 girls singles.

This was no easy feat by all means as Moyland is ranked 16th in the world. Cruz is ranked 305th. Talk about a giant upset.

The 16-year-old Cruz, who's set to take home P20,000, also made history by becoming the first player from the Philippines, where table tennis is not given much attention, to take home a title in the tournament.

She also avenged her loss to Moyland in the championship match in the U17 division.

In an article posted on WTT’s website, Cruz said having his dad in her corner has done wonders for her budding career.

“Having my dad as my coach is such a big factor because of our connection and trust, and we understand each other,” Cruz said. “Had it not been for my dad, I don’t think my achievement would have been possible.”

Last June, she brought home two gold medals in the Southeast Asia Youth Table Tennis Championship in Brunei.

At the rate things are going, it is highly likely she will reap more awards in various competitions and bring honor to her country.
