Ryuichi Kishimoto didn’t seem surprised when teammate Carl Tamayo turned in an explosive performance in Ryukyu Golden Kings’ 80-63 opening win against the Saga Ballooners weeks ago.

Apart from clamping down on defense, the 6-foot-7 forward out of UP Fighting Maroons shot four three-pointers on his way to 15 points in their 2023-2024 Japan B.League opener.

“I think today’s performance was his normal. He can get that kind of stats every game,” Kishimoto said after the match.

Head coach Dai Oketani shared the same sentiment.

“His defensive performance was great. He also got 4 three-pointers. It was a huge contribution to the team,” Oketani said as the Golden Kings began their title-retention bid on a high note.

CJ Cansino, with whom Tamayo won a championship in the UAAP a couple of years ago, couldn’t agree more.

On Tuesday, Japan B.League shared his highlights which Cansino reposted on his personal Instagram account.

“Yes of course,” he wrote in the caption.

Could this be Tamayo’s breakout year after joining the defending champions late last season?
