Gilas Pilipinas Women stayed on track in their 2025 SEA Games redemption tour, ousting defending champion Indonesia with a dominant semifinal victory.
Revenge was served cold.
Gilas Pilipinas Women exacted payback for their 2023 defeat to defending champion Indonesia, rolling to a strong 66-55 semifinal victory for a spot in the gold medal round of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Nimibutr National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Indonesians handed the Filipinas their lone loss two years ago in Cambodia, denying the Nationals a three-peat and settling them for silver.
This time, Gilas Women made sure there would be no repeat of that heartbreak — and that a new champion will be crowned in Thailand.
The Philippines ignited a 12-2 run to close out the first quarter, turning a narrow 18-14 lead into a commanding 30-16 advantage.
Gilas Women maintained control for the rest of the game on their way assuring themselves of at least a silver medal in the competition.
Head coach Pat Aquino and his wards will face either Thailand or Malaysia in the gold medal round on Friday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m.
