Gilas Pilipinas has taken a step back on the world stage.
The Filipinos dropped three spots and slid back to no. 37 in the latest FIBA men's basketball world rankings released Thursday, September 18.

The slip comes just a month after the Filipinos’ FIBA Asia Cup 2025 campaign, where they reached the quarterfinals before bowing to three-time defending champion Australia.

Gilas Men, though, finish seventh in the continental showcase -- a rather small improvement from their ninth-place finish back in 2022.

It was an up-and-down run for Philippines which stumbled out of the gate with back-to-back group-stage losses.
Gilas clawed its way back by defeating Iran and later Saudi Arabia in the qualification round to secure a spot in the knockout phase — only to see its journey cut short by the powerhouse Boomers.

Despite the slide, the Philippines remain among Asia’s top seven squads.
Australia climbed to no. 6 after its three-peat title run, followed by Japan (no. 22), New Zealand (no. 26), Iran (no. 27), and China, which surged three places to no. 24 after a runner-up finish.

Meanwhile, reigning world champion Germany rose to no. 2 behind Team USA after ruling the 2025 EuroBasket as they leapfrogged Serbia, which dropped to no. 3 following a shock round-of-16 exit against Finland.

Reigning Olympic silver medalist France stayed at no. 4 while Canada completed the top five.
Turkey, this year’s EuroBasket runners-up , made one of the biggest leaps by vaulting 15 places to the 12th spot, while Brazil cracked the top 10 after capturing the FIBA AmeriCup crown.
