Gilas Pilipinas struggled to keep up with Chinese Taipei and went on to drop their FIBA Asia Cup 2025 opener, 87-95, early Wednesday, Aug. 6 (Manila time).

Gilas had no answer to its foe's 25-8 blast anchored on Ying Chun Chen, who picked the Filipinos' defense apart with a variety of attacks at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Nationals, though, showed some resistance in the succeeding quarters but their efforts were simply not enough, absorbing their first loss instead in Group D action where they will also face New Zealand and Iraq.

Gilas will try to even things out when it takes on the Tall Blacks Thursday, August 7.
