World number 16 Hungary bounced back after the loss to Senegal, outrebounding the Philippines in the FIBA Women's World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournament.
Gilas Pilipinas Women absorbed a second loss in a row, this time to world number 16 Hungary, in Group C of the FIBA Women's World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournament, 97-60.
The loss will make it difficult for the world number 40 Philippines to reach the semifinals. The Filipinas have a 0-2 record with two points and are at the bottom of Group C.
The Hungarians utilized their height and size to lock down Philippine star Jack Animam and rule the boards, 57-24.
This consequently led to a 46-22 difference regarding points in the paint.
Hungary also had the edge in second chance points with 27, compared to the Philippines' four.
Gilas Pilipinas though had more steals with 11 compared to the Hungarians' seven. The Filipinas also had four blocks.
Afril Bernardino led the Philippines with 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, and four steals. Ella Fajardo pitched in with 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist.
Animam, who had a double-double against Brazil, was limited to six points, a rebound, two steals, and a block. She also had five turnovers.

Meanwhile, three players were in double digits for Hungary. Agnes Torok led them all with 25 points--coming from 10-of-11 shooting.
With two losses, the Philippines is in the bottom of Group C. Only the top two can reach the crossover knockout semifinals.
They will still have a match against still undefeated Senegal on Thursday, August 22, 5 p.m., Philippine time.
