 Rey Remogat called game.

Remogat drilled a game-winning, step-back triple with 16.5 seconds left, helping the Gilas Pilipinas U23 team stun China, 21-19, in Stop 2 of the 2024 FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League at the Fengfeng Mining Area Museum in Handan Shi on Tuesday, June 11.

The newest UP Fighting Maroon took over late, scoring five of the Nationals' last six points to rally back from a 18-15 deficit in the last two minutes.

Letran’s Art Roque and Perpetual’s Patrick Sleat added nine and five points respectively with Weu Zhang leading the way for China with 10 markers.

However, the squad could not follow up that impressive win after falling shart against Japan, 17-21, in their next outing and prevented them from moving on to the next round after capping their Pool B assignment with a 1-1 win-loss slate.

Mongolia emerged on top after beating China in the final round, while the Philippine settled for third place in Stop 2.

In Stop 1 on Monday, June 10, the Philippines also fell short after dropping their first match against Mongolia, 12-21, before beating Japan, 21-12.

Gilas Pilipinas U23 will resume their campaign later today, June 12, for Stop 3 against Mongolia and Turkmenistan at 5:15 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. respectively.

The Pinoy hoopers (140 points) are currently sitting in the third spot of the standings, trailing behind leaders Mongolia (200) and Japan (130). The Filipinos are ahead of China (125), Kazakhstan (125) and Turkmenistan (100).

A total of six stops will be held in a week-long tournament league that features the best 3x3 players from Asia.
