The no. 11 Gilas Women bow out of the quarterfinals for a second year in a row of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.
A breakthrough continues to elude Gilas Women.
The nationals’ erstwhile-perfect run in the quarterfinals of the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, losing to Chinese Taipei, 19-9, Sunday in Singapore.
Gilas Women struggled to get shots, as the Taipei quartet used their size for an overwhelming advantage.
The loss comes after five-straight wins for Gilas Women, as Mikka Cacho, Camille Clarin, Jhazmin Joson, and Kaye Pingol battled through a 3-0 qualifying round to advance to the main draw.
In the main draw, the Philippines beat no. 6 Malaysia and no. 3 Mongolia for first place in Group C, drawing the 8th-ranked Taiwanese in the process.
Unfortunately, the semis remain elusive for the Philippines, as the no. 11 Gilas Women bow out of the quarterfinals for a second year in a row. Last year, the Philippines lost to New Zealand in the same round.
Gilas Women also made the quarterfinals in 2019, but lost to eventual champion Australia.
Earlier, Gilas Men crashed out of the competition, losing to Australia and Japan in Group C.
