It’s no secret that the Filipinas are coming into the FIFA Women’s World Cup as underdogs.

But that’s exactly where the World Cup first-timers have thrived for the past two years.

“We love to punch above our weight and punch through the ceiling and we’ve consistently done that in the past 18 months to get to where we are now,” said co-captain Hali Long.

That’s why when asked about their mindset ahead of their match against no. 20 Switzerland, Long didn’t think long before coming up with an answer.

“We’re gonna win,” she said.

Such poise is exactly what coach Alen Stajic believes the team can bring when the Philippines debuts in the world stage. After all, they conquered the impossible en route to this World Cup stint.

Underdogs as they may be, the Filipinas are out to pull off shockers. Watch out, world.

“So regardless of our age, experience, what we’ve gained in the last 18 months, I mean you can’t put a price on it but for the players the knowledge we’ve gained, the habits we’ve gained, and the respect we’ve garnered, I don’t think anyone can discredit us,” she said.

“So yes were gonna win and give it our absolute all each and every game.”
