Seven wins in a row for league-leaders Aurora Gaming, as Smart Omega Esports stopped their slide with a crucial win to open round two of MPL Philippines Season 16 play.
Aurora Gaming hit two birds with one stone in their latest MPL Philippines Season 16 outing.
Not only did RORA extend their winning streak to seven games, but the league leaders also exacted revenge on Team Falcons PH—the only team to beat them so far—after pulling off a 2-1 victory in their round two clash on Friday, September 19.
With the win, Aurora climbed to a 7-1 record, solidifying their dominance at the top while dooming Team Falcons (1-7) to yet another defeat—their seventh in a row.
After dropping the series opener, Aurora forced a decider behind the stellar play of Kenneth “Yue” Tadeo on Cecilion, who delivered an impeccable 2-0-14 KDA performance.
With momentum firmly on their side, Aurora completed the comeback as Jonard Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto’s Lancelot and Edward Jay “Edward” Dapadap’s Uranus applied relentless pressure, closing out the match in just 10 minutes.
Aurora Gaming will look to stretch their streak to eight straight wins when they face defending champions Team Liquid PH (5-2) on Friday, September 26, while Team Falcons will try to bounce back against Twisted Minds (4-3) next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Smart Omega Esports snapped a three-game skid after outlasting TNC Pro Team in a thrilling 2-1 result in the day’s curtain-raiser.
After splitting the first two games, Czedrick “SUPERYOSHI” Romero’s decisive plays on Khaleed proved critical en route to a regular-season sweep of TNC Pro—whom Omega also defeated in their opening-round encounter.
The win padded Omega’s record to 3-5, but TNC Pro (3-5) kept hold of fifth place thanks to a tiebreaker edge, leaving Omega in sixth.
“Siguro nasa 80% pataas yung execution namin kaya nakuha namin yung expected result,” said Smart Omega head coach Hans “Wuraaaah” Solano.
Omega will try to make it back-to-back wins when it faces AP.Bren later at 2:30 p.m., while TNC Pro Team aim to rebound in a showdown with Team Falcons PH next Saturday, September 27.
