Incoming PNVF president Tonyboy Liao confirmed that there is mutual interest between the federation and Thai coach Anusorn “Tai” Bundit as Alas Pilipinas Women reassess their direction following a fourth-place finish in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

Liao revealed that changes are on the table for the national team setup, with current head coach Jorge De Brito’s contract set to expire at the end of 2025.

“With regards to the team, sabi nga nila go back to the drawing board,” Liao said.

“Number one, De Brito finished contract. Most probably, we will change him to another coach. Pagbalik ko sa Pilipinas, we will have a board meeting and discuss sino ang papalit.”

Coaching change under consideration

Liao acknowledged that hiring a Filipino coach remains an option, but practical challenges remain.

“Puwede kami kumuha na Pilipino na coach,” he said. “Kaso pag-aaralan namin kasi alam naman natin na lahat ng magagaling na Filipino coaches busy with PVL teams, busy with the universities.”

With a packed international calendar ahead—including the AVC Women’s Champions League, SEA V.League, Asian Championship, and Asian Games—the federation is expected to prioritize continuity and availability in its decision-making for the next step in the Alas program.

“Mag board meeting kami and see what would be the necessary changes that we have to do,” Liao added.

Tai Bundit on the wishlist

Among the names being considered, Bundit stands out as a priority target for the federation.

“Yeah, nasa wishlist siya,” Liao said. “If you will say, medyo champion coach—lahat ng teams na binanggit ko, pinag-champion siya.”

Bundit is currently coaching the Criss Cross King Crunchers in the Spikers' Turf under the Rebisco group, meaning his availability will depend on whether management agrees to release him for national team duties.

Bundit, though, is no stranger to Philippine volleyball, having led the Ateneo women’s volleyball team to two UAAP titles. His recent win is leading Criss Cross to its first-ever Spikers’ Turf crown.

Liao also shared that the Thai Volleyball Association has expressed willingness to support the move.

“Thai federation, nakausap ko na ‘yung Secretary General and Executive Director—they are very willing to help the Philippines. Wala na tayong problema doon,” said Liao.

“Ang talagang go signal na lang is from the Rebisco management,” he added. “I talked to him about this one. He is very interested.”
