As Group B’s second-placer, Alas Pilipinas Men move on to the 2025 SEA Games volleyball crossover semifinals, where they will face either Vietnam or Thailand in the upcoming round.
There was simply no upset trick up left in the Alas Men’s sleeve.
The Philippine men’s national volleyball team put up a late fight, but eventually absorbed a 17-25, 25-27, 24-26 loss to defending champions Indonesia in their Group B showdown at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Bangkok’s Indoor Stadium Huamark.
Alas Men looked poised to steal the second set, holding a 24-23 lead after an Indonesian error.
But the 12-time SEA Games champions remained composed, rallying to score four of the final five points and take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Alas Men fought back in the third set, even tying it at 23-all, before Indonesia delivered the decisive points to complete the sweep.
With the defeat, the Philippines finished pool play at 1-1, entering the crossover semifinals as Group B’s second-placer.
They will now await the outcome of the Group A clash between Vietnam and Thailand, with the winner set to face Alas Men on Thursday, December 18.
