Alas Pilipinas U18’s valiant run came to an end as the young Filipinas settled for fourth place after a hard-fought straight-set loss to Thailand in the battle for bronze, 24-26, 20-25, 24-26, in the 2025 Asian Youth Games on Wednesday.

Thailand showcased its trademark composure in the tight opening and closing sets, with four players scoring in double figures led by Natthawan Phatthaisong, who poured in 13 points.

Sasithorn Jatta and Nattharika Wasan chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Thais controlled the crucial rallies to secure the bronze medal.

Despite the close margins, Alas U18 struggled to convert in endgame situations, allowing Thailand to pull away with timely attacks and strong net defense.

Rising star Rhose Almendralejo once again spearheaded the Philippine offense, finishing with 15 points built on powerful spikes and steady play throughout the match.

Harlyn Serenche and Sam Cantada added eight points apiece, but the team couldn’t sustain momentum long enough to force a fourth set.

"Makikita natin na nagdidikitan kami sa simula. Pero nung bandang huli, bumibitaw talaga kami. Dun nakikita lapses namin, errors namin lumalabas," admitted Jaila Adrao.

Despite falling short of a podium finish, Alas U18’s performance marked a promising step for the country’s youth volleyball program.

"Kahit nabitin po kami, lumaban po kami," Adrao said.
