Bryan Bagunas was once again at the forefront of the Alas Pilipinas charge, delivering 25 points to steer the team through tight sets and crucial moments.
Rookie opposite Leo Ordiales bounced back strong after a quiet debut against Tunisia, coming through with 21 markers, including key hits that helped the Philippines pull away late in the fourth set.
The win puts Alas Pilipinas at 1-1, within striking distance of a Round of 16 berth. This development set up another crucial showdown against world no. 13 Iran (1-1) on Thursday, September 18.
Meanwhile, Egypt, also with a 1-1 record, must now beat Tunisia (1-1) on the same day to avoid elimination and keep its own playoff hopes alive.
