Leo Ordiales is taking in all the lessons and experiences as part of Alas Pilipinas Men's pool for the 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship.
Leo Ordiales knows his spot in Alas Pilipinas is not yet guaranteed, but the 22-year-old opposite hitter is determined to make the most of every opportunity.
One of the youngest members of the 21-man pool for the FIVB Men's World Championship 2025, Ordiales sees his inclusion as both a privilege and a stepping stone—not just for himself, but for the future of the national team program.
“For me, it’s not about age or experience. Whatever role is given to me—whether I’m in the first six, coming off the bench, or just in training—I’ll embrace it and give my all for the team,” said Ordiales.
The NU standout has spent the past year training alongside Bryan Bagunas, Marck Espejo, and Steven Rotter, gaining valuable lessons during the team’s three-country camp in Morocco, Romania, and Portugal.
“I’ll just fulfill whatever role is given to me. Of course, it all starts with trust,” said Ordiales. “I trust them because they also trust me. We’re all helping each other.”

Ordiales said that competing with taller, more experienced Europeans showed him the value of discipline, teamwork, and trust.
He also admits that he still has a lot to prove, but draws motivation from being part of the historic world championship hosting.
“My only goal is to give my best, especially since we’ll be playing in front of our fellow Filipinos,” said Ordiales. “Whatever happens in the world championship, I want people to leave the arena saying they were proud of how the team played.”

Ordiales knows his time may come in the future, but for now, he is embracing every moment as proof that the next generation of Filipino talent is ready to contribute.
“Of course, I’m honored because not everyone is given this kind of opportunity,” he said. “Out of the millions who play volleyball in the Philippines and the many young athletes who dream of this, I feel truly grateful to be given this chance.”
