The “Set Na Natin ’To” Trophy and Mascot Tour makes its second stop this Saturday, August 24, in Laoag City, bringing with it not only the excitement of the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship but also a showcase of Ilocos Norte’s volleyball pride.

A mini-tournament featuring four homegrown squads—Block Builders, Laoag MVT, PSQ, and Northwestern University—will serve as the highlight of the event at Dap Ayan Park, with matches running throughout the day before the formal program at 6:00 p.m.

Faivo Bartolome, president of Ilocos Norte Volleyball, Ilocos Norte Sports Consultant, and a charter member of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), said the tour will also mark a historic moment for the newly-opened SM City Laoag, which launched just last May and will now host its first major sporting activity.

Local officials, including Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Marcos, Vice Governor Matthew Manotoc, Laoag City Mayor James Bryan Alcid, and Vice Mayor Rey Carlos Fariñas, have been invited to grace the festivities.

The Laoag stop follows the successful kick-off at SM Seaside in Cebu City last weekend.

The three-city tour will wrap up on August 30 at SM Downtown in Cagayan de Oro City.

Meanwhile, PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara shared that Alas Pilipinas Men remain on track in their three-country European training camp, which is now in its final phase in Santo Tirso, Portugal.

Suzara noted that veterans Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo have fully recovered from injuries, boosting the team’s preparations for the world championship set from September 12 to 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena and Smart Araneta Coliseum.
