Alas Pilipinas have tumbled down the FIVB World Rankings after missing out on the podium in both legs of the recently concluded 5th SEA V.League, held in Candon, Ilocos Sur and in Jakarta, Indonesia in the past two weeks.
Alas, which previously had a high ranking of world no. 64, has skidded down to world no. 78 in the latest edition of the list released this week.

The national team had tallied a 3-5 record across the two legs — including a 1-3 performance in Leg 2 where they finished fourth overall. This incurred them a net loss of 7.01 world ranking points.

Heading into the tail-end of Leg 1 in Candon, Alas had high hopes of finishing on the podium, possibly a program-best finish in the regional tournament. But unfortunate losses dampened the Philippines’ hopes and ended up with worse results than their performance in 2024.

Last year, Alas finished both legs with a bronze medal finish.

The results come just months before the Philippines is set to host the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championships in September.

The Philippines was among the biggest losers in the recent edition of the rankings, along with Cambodia who finished dead last in both legs of the tournament.

Alas Men will look to lick their wounds and regain some ground before the World Championships.

Alas is grouped in Pool A with Iran, Egypt, and Tunisia in the tournament beginning September 12.
