Despite missing out on the podium anew, Alas Pilipinas Men saw libero Josh Ybañez win an individual award in the second leg of the 5th SEA V.League.
Josh Ybañez was named Best Libero in Leg 2 of the 5th SEA V.League in Jakarta, Indonesia after a brilliant performance in the tournament that saw Alas Pilipinas finish fourth place.
Alas fell short of a podium finish on both legs of the SEA V.League despite last year’s result where they got the bronze finish in the first and second leg.
Ybañez, a natural spiker, showed his versatility for the national team as he continues to excel in the role of defensive specialist, and embracing what the team needs from him, especially with the World Championships fast approaching.
The UST dynamo was key to Alas’ floor defense throughout the tournament and kept tough balls alive.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) lauded Ybañez for his tenacity and willingness to play any role that Alas gives him.
“With unmatched hustle, sharp instincts, and fearless defense, Josh anchored the floor for Alas Pilipinas and proved why he’s one of the best in Southeast Asia.” they said.
“Your hard work and heart on the court continue to inspire. Well deserved, Josh!”
Ybañez’ recognition comes after Leo Ordiales was named Best Opposite Hitter in Leg 1 in Candon, Ilocos Sur.
Alas Pilipinas ended the SEA V.League with an accumulated record of 3-5 — finishing fourth overall.
