Alas Pilipinas leading scorer Leo Ordiales nabbed his first international individual award as he was named Best Opposite Spiker in the first leg of the 2025 SEA V.League.
Leo Ordiales was a true bright spot for Alas Pilipinas in Leg 1 of the 2025 Men’s SEA V.League, winning Best Opposite Spiker on Sunday.
Ordiales’ first individual award on the international stage comes as a solid consolation as Alas last a virtual fight for second to Indonesia and had to settle for fourth place.
Consistent for Alas through their four games, including a 22-point explosion against Cambodia in a five-set thriller, Ordiales stood out from the pack thanks to his high-power offense that helped the Philippines to a 2-2 record.
Ordiales ended up with 64 total points for Alas in the Candon City leg of the SEA V.League — good enough to be the tournament's 4th best scorer.
Thailand's Amornthep Konhan was named tournament MVP while Kissada Nilsawai and Tran Duy Tuyen were the best middle blockers of the tournament.
Nguyen Ngoc Thuan of Vietnam and Boy Arnez Arabi of Indonesia were the two best outside spikers, while Tanapat Charoensuk was the best libero. Indonesia's Jasen Natanael Kilanta was the best setter.
"Sobrang saya kasi first time ko magka-award sa international. Siguro, dagdag din ng boost ng confidence para [magkaron] ng rason na pagigihan pa lalo,” said Ordiales after winning the award.
While Alas is left to pick up the pieces after missing out on a medal, Ordiales will hope to bring momentum into the tournament's second leg which begins in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 16.
There, Alas Men will hope to regain their bearings after finishing outside of the podium for the first time since 2023.
Last year, Alas netted the bronze medal in both legs of the tournament.
