Alas Pilipinas Women barged into the semifinals of the VTV Cup 2025 after sweeping Thailand’s Est Cola to set up a semifinals clash with defending champion Korabelka.
Alas Pilipinas will make their way to the semifinals of the VTV Cup 2025 after overpowering Thailand’s Est Cola in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21, Thursday, July 8, at the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium in Vietnam.
Coming off back-to-back wins to end pool play, Alas Women continued their momentum against Est Cola, who were sorely missing captain Kuttika Kaewpin after being called up to the senior national team for the ongoing Volleyball Nations League.
Trailing by as many as four points early in the third set, the Philippine squad quickly rebounded with a 6-1 run led by Vanie Gandler and MJ Phillips to retake the lead at 7-6.
The two squads continued to exchange runs up until the 14-all mark, where Alas Women nabbed a crucial three-point lead at 18-15 after back-to-back attack errors by Est Cola.
With momentum on their side, Gandler went on to extend the national team’s lead to its biggest in the frame at 23-17. From there, Eya Laure brought Alas to match point before Est Cola committed a service error to seal the victory.
Alas Women will face the defending champions Korabelka in the semifinals for a shot at the gold medal in the Vietnam tilt. The match is scheduled for tomorrow, July 4.
