The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) is still awaiting the completion of the necessary paperwork from Petro Gazz standouts Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips, just a week before Alas Pilipinas formally begins training for the national team window.

PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara confirmed that while both players have expressed their willingness to represent the country, they have yet to submit the required documents needed to finalize their transfer of federation from USA Volleyball.

"I saw [news] that Brooke and MJ are willing to join the national team. But just to make it clear, Hollie [Reyes], our team manager, has been following up with their management about the requirements for submitting for the change of federation," Suzara explained during the FIVB Men's World Championship and MVP Group partnership press conference at the Meralco Lighthouse.

"Until they submit these requirements, we cannot request the change with USA Volleyball, and the FIVB cannot approve it."

Just last week after the 2025 AVC Women's Champions League, Van Sickle told reporters that they were waiting for updates.

"I know that MJ and my paperwork have already been processed, so now we're just kind of waiting for the next step, I guess," Van Sickle said at the time. She was unable to disclose the specific documents on the matter.

Van Sickle and Phillips, two of the 33 players on the Alas Pilipinas wishlist, are among the top reinforcements being eyed for the team’s upcoming campaigns in the AVC Nations Cup, the Southeast Asian V.League, and the Southeast Asian Games.

Suzara shared that during last month's FIVB executive board meeting, where he also sits as an executive vice president, about 20 changes of federation were approved.

Unfortunately, due to incomplete requirements, Van Sickle and Phillips’ cases were not among those processed.

“Sayang 'yun eh, hindi tayo umabot,” Suzara lamented. “I would like to ask for the help of the management of Petro Gazz to support their requirements because it is very important. The legal department will check if they are really valid for a change of federation.”

With Alas Pilipinas’ buildup starting next week, Suzara emphasized the urgency of the situation.

“The sooner, the better, so that they could be part of the national team. Because Alas will start training already next week. The others can join after May, especially those playing in the UAAP.”
