After forcing a do-or-die match against Far Eastern University in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament, the University of Santo Tomas remained focus on the goal of making to the Finals.

This ultimately bared fruit for the Golden Spikers as they made history by becoming the first no. 4 seed to make it to the Finals of the UAAP men's volleyball tournament.

After the match, Gboy De Vega, who finished with 18 points which included the game-winning attack, admitted to not thinking too much about the chance of making history in the UAAP.

"Samin kasi 'di namin iniisip kung anong place namin eh, 'yung chance na makapag-play kami sa semis, kumbaga grab it, para makarating kami sa Finals, kahit gaano kahirap," De Vega said during the post-game press conference.

"'Yung hirap naman nalagpasan naman namin and super happy, 'di ko ma-explain but all of us are happy," he added.

Reigning MVP Josh Ybañez likewise zoned in solely on winning their do-or-die match against the Tamaraws.

"'Di namin pinapansin, 'di namin inisip na ganyan na kami ang no. 4, so wala na kaming chance mag-Finals. As long as may spot, kahit tiny spot lang na makapasok kami sa Finals, gagawan at gagawan namin ng paraan. Pagtatrabahuhan," said Ybañez.

UST certainly has more to work for, as the Golden Spikers now prepare for Game 1 of the UAAP Season 86 Finals where they will face the defending champions, National University. The two schools squared off in the same stage last year, with the Bulldogs taking victory.
