As the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women approaches, anticipation is building over the impending final roster for the Philippine women’s national volleyball team.

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL), which is now responsible for assembling the tricolor squad, is collaborating with national team head coach Jorge Edson De Brito to finalize the composition of the roster.

PVL president Ricky Palou noted that a preliminary pool of 20 players has been drawn up, though it's not yet set in stone. This list, compiled from recommendations by several coaches, has been submitted to de Brito for further review and approval.

“We have a pool of 20 [players]. It's not yet final because we're waiting for coach De Brito to give us his inputs into the pool. But basically we came up with a list of 20 players while waiting for De Brito to look at it and see if he wants to make any changes or if he's satisfied with it,” Palou said.

“Actually this pool was recommended by several coaches, they submitted it, they looked at it and we submitted it to de Brito for his comments. We're waiting for his reply. We should be getting that in the next few days.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced on Sunday that it is delegating the task of selecting, forming, and training the women’s national team for future competitions to the PVL.

Palou said that the league is honored to have been given such a responsibility.

“We are honored that the Philippine National Volleyball Federation gave us the responsibility of handling the national team for women's [volleyball]. They gave us the coaching staff, and we're now discussing with the coaching staff who will compose the national team for the women's,” he said.

The AVC Challenge Cup for Women is scheduled to take place from May 22 to 29 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The tournament will see the Philippines compete against teams from Kazakhstan, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and India.
